The excitement of Christmas and New Year’s is over and there’s nearly THREE weeks of school holidays left. Thankfully, there are still plenty of options available to occupy the kids, so buckle up and check out what’s in store.

Check out all the special events!

We are so fortunate that we have a thriving events scene. There’s no shortage of events to check out and event organisers across the state have kept the kids in mind this school holidays.

Why not pop into the Perth Cultural Centre with your favourite plushie and join the teddy bears on their picnic? This free event starts at 9.30pm and promises a fun morning of activations and games for kids and their cuddly friends.

Want to extend the magic of Eric Carle beyond the page? The Hungry Caterpillar is back for the season, so take the little littlies out to the Regal for a delightful, colourful afternoon exploring the whimsical world of Eric Carle.

And of course, one of our favourite festivals are back this Summer season – Fringe! Kids will be spoilt for choice this season with over thirty events ranging from dinosaurs and gadgets, to bubbles and princesses.

Two shows that are on my hitlist are Kaboom! (for my technically minded 5 year old) and Bubble Laboratory’s Bubble Show (because who DOESN’T love bubbles?!)… so keep your eyes peeled for reviews soon!

Stay cool, Perth

We can expect super hot days in Summer, so take refuge in your local cinema. The current offerings are suitable for preschoolers (Trolls) all the way up to moody teenagers (Aquaman), so you can’t go wrong with an afternoon in a cool theatre. Heads up: the remake of Mean Girls is also opening on the 11th, which might be the perfect excuse for a girls’ day out at the shops!

WA Museum Boola Bardip are holding special school holiday activities for the kids. Gamer kids will be especially interested in Minecraft Heads to the Desert and little builders will love Tinker Lab. While you’re there for the activities, make a day of it by visiting the permanent exhibitions that are on display at the museum.

If your kids are anything like mine and NEED physical activity, why not hit up one of the various FREE water playgrounds or splash pads around Perth? Our personal favourite is Maylands Waterland for it’s variety of activities and the onsite family showers but some other parks to consider:

  • Kwinana Adventure Playground, Calista
  • Rainbow Waters, Ellenbrook
  • Hyde Park Water Playground, Highgate
  • BHP Biliton Water Park, Elizabeth Quay
  • Bibra Lake Regional Playground, Bibra Lake

Is there something coming up in February that we need to know about? Drop me a DM @rojakwayoflife by 15th December for consideration in our February wrap up!
