Perth Comedy Festival has started! WA Comedy All Stars was my first show of the season and they’ve set the bar VERY high! I laughed from the belly from beginning to end, thanks to our local comedians.
Our local stars included host, Matt Storer, who was a Fringe World Weekly Award Winner for Best Comedy. He was followed by an amazing team: Emma Krause (Best Comedy Winner – Fringe World 2024), Andrew Wolfe (supported Jim Jefferies), Blake Richardson (Comedy Lounge – Comedian of the Year 2023) and Luke Joseph Ryan (Cleo Bachelor of the Year Nominee). I was impressed by the story telling and the confidence of these talented folks. If anyone wants a great night out to check it out!
Andrew had us in stitches for all the wrong reasons. It felt wrong to laugh about his hard core mental health issues and the challenges he faced. His routine while somewhat dark, was also relatable. It was hard to figure out, which part was the act and which part was an open display of a manic episode. At times I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or hide, but the room was electric when he was on!
The second act was a blast from the past. I remember Mickey J (Member of the award-winning comedy trio Suns of Fred) from when I was a teenager as the best Michael Jackson impersonator in Perth. This guy is a quadruple threat, you NEED to see him dance and do comedy at the same time. It’s unique, perfectly timed and inspiring! I left there talking for hours about how great the whole show was!
It was a brilliant night at The Rechabite, which is a great place to watch some great comedy in an intimate setting.
