Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers gives us a fascinating insight into the artist that would go on to become one of the most famous in the world, delighting art lovers with his colourful and vibrant impressionist pieces. While you’d be hard pressed to find a Van Gogh aficionado who didn’t know about his mental illness struggles, the film focuses more on Van Gogh’s extensive reading and prolific letter writing, where his poetic prose lept from the page like the painted lovers in his works. He wrote over 903 letters, and thanks to the quantity and beauty of his surviving correspondence, we can surmise that he was not only an extraordinary artist, but also a poet at heart.
Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers focuses mostly on his time in Arles, though it sometimes deviates to his period in Paris or early life in the Netherlands, It beautifully weaves together Vincent’s letters to friends and family with expert opinions about the exhibition. The exhibition also brings together paintings that were previously housed in far-flung parts of the world, giving us a greater peek into what the exhibition has termed ‘the most dramatic and exciting period of Van Gogh’s life’.
Don’t miss your opportunity to see Vincent’s works on the big screen in this film, especially if you’ve never had the supreme pleasure of admiring them in person. I’m delighted that Exhibition on Screen is allowing audiences around the world to experience this exhibition. We are fortunate to have an exhibition and a movie that peels back the layers of this incredible man and his work.
The movie is poetically and artistically produced, and does Van Gogh’s legacy justice.
Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers will be playing at The Windsor for an extremely limited run. Grab your tickets ASAP!
