Wow! My cheeks are still aching and I have cramps after watching The Headliners Comedy Gala.
The home schooled and eccentric Matt Storer was the perfect opener to warm up the crowd. Matt shared insights on comedy trends pre and post marriage. He also detailed his experience as a home-schooled kid and the crippling effect it had on his athleticism. He ended it on a heartwarming note, serenading us with an anthem on confidence, no matter your what your failings may be.

We were then introduced to the first act, Xavier Michelides, known for his Bunnings face swap videos. The self-deprecating local from Como/Manning shared hilarious anecdotes of a day in the life of a bald person who has hair in all the wrong places.

The witty Janelle Koenig won the hearts of the crowd with delicious one liners, ripping into the members of the audience with quick reverse-heckles. After merciless shots to a young birthday girl who braved the front row, Janelle improvised a guitar solo for a lucky audience member. But what really had me in stitches, was her physical reaction to an irish accent!

The last local that I recognised was the beloved all-rounder, and ‘sexually ambiguous’, Mickey J. His perfectly timed musical comedy and dance abilities are always inspiring and joyful to watch. Openly admitting to his not-so-masculine demeanour, Mickey took us on a choreographed journey into the wacky world of modelling and um… shaving. Yes Mickey, it was me you were staring at as you were shaving down there!

We were very lucky to have the show close with celebrity comedian, Dilruk Jayasinha. You would have recognised Dilruk on Amazon Prime, Celebrity Masterchef and Have You Been Paying Attention?

I laughed so much I probably missed half of the act. His stories included personal anecdotes, like his early heart attack. They also included cultural observations: like going through customs or being raised in a family of 3 different religions. His journey as a single man getting a Brazilian wax had me in tears!

If you want a genuine belly laugh, do not miss The Headliners Comedy Gala the next time it rolls into town!
