I’ve delayed writing this review—not out of laziness, but because I’ve been torn.

Minecraft: The Movie has sparked wildly mixed opinions, and I wanted time to sit with it… and observe the chaos that unfolded in the cinema. Grown adults squealing, yelling, even throwing things mid-film? I still don’t get it. My 10-year-old might, but these weren’t his peers behaving this way.

Now, to the film itself: yes, Jason Momoa is in it—but no, he’s not your typical lonely mum’s fantasy figure. He’s more daggy blocky hero than brooding hunk, which is a surprising (and perhaps wise) turn.

The storyline is simple enough for kids to follow, but definitely aimed squarely at their imaginations rather than adult nostalgia.  Jack Black simply does his thing – appealing to all ages and working his magic leaving that annoying yet satisfying indelible tune that’ll have you singing it on the way home from the theatre…and in the shower…and any other time you have a gap in concentration!! Or maybe it’s just me and my echolalia or vocal stimming!!  La la la lava…ch-ch-ch-chicken!! (Sorry, not sorry!)

What saved the experience for me was seeing it in 4D. With every rumble, splash, and jolt, the action literally jumped out at us, making even the slower parts a thrill. If you get the chance to see any film in 4D, take it. Honestly, that may have been the best part.

Is it a cinematic masterpiece? No. But is it a winner with the kids? Undeniably, yes.
