When I first told my husband we were going to watch Lizzy Hoo, his first remark was – oh the Australian Ali Wong?
It’s easy to draw the comparison, given the physical resemblances between the two.

However, where Ali is brash, in your face and someone you need to be in the “right mood” for, Lizzy is the friend you are happy to chill with. The one with random yarns up her sleeve that’ll make you howl with laughter.
Nothing is sacred with Lizzy. She regales with deeply personal tales of her third wheel pup and her dating life.
Her family isn’t safe from her jibes either. The audience loved hearing about her dad’s misadventures with his massage business and her brother’s ballsy content creator lifetstyle. This is definitely not a show for kids.
There are two types of adult humour comedians. There are ones who wring every bit of innuendo out of a joke and make a big spectacle out of it. Then there are the ones who treat adult humour as a juicy piece of gossip to only be shared with a select few.
Lizzy is the latter. I LOVE that she serves up these very adult tales without degenerating into crass humour.
Some might feel that she jumps around from topic to topic throughout this set. Yet, she makes it all flow seamlessly. It really does feel like a catch up with a friend you haven’t seen for awhile. Just hold on for the ride and you’ll be rewarded for it.
Lizzy teased us about being back in Perth for Fringe next year, so she’ll definitely be on my watch list.
In the meantime, make sure you check out the other talented comedians that Side Splitter Comedy Festival has lined up.
