Liam Cooper’s King of the Keys was everything we hoped it would be. Fun, nostalgic, and packed with incredible music.

From the moment the lights came up at Crown Theatre, the energy was electric. Cooper had the crowd tapping along straight away, launching into a two-hour celebration of piano rock legends like Billy Joel, Elton John, Queen, Ray Charles, and so many more.

What really stood out to me was how personal the show felt. Cooper didn’t just play the hits – he shared the stories behind them. We loved hearing how Let It Be came to Paul McCartney in a dream, or how the line about the “waitress practicing politics” in Piano Man was inspired by Billy Joel’s first wife. These little moments gave the songs a new layer of meaning.

His vocals were strong and sincere—not trying to mimic anyone, but clearly paying tribute.

And the band? Incredible. The mix of brass, guitar, and percussion gave the whole show a fresh, full sound. The setlist was spot on, too. From emotional ballads like Imagine and Isn’t She Lovely to unexpected crowd-pleasers like Take On Me and The Final Countdown, there was something for everyone.

There were even fireworks and moments where Cooper jumped on top of the grand piano… it was part concert, part spectacle, and honestly, just loads of fun. You could tell he truly loves what he does. With roots in classical and jazz piano, and years of experience performing around the world, Cooper brings real skill and joy to the stage.

King of the Keys wasn’t just a tribute. It was a heartfelt love letter to iconic songs and the stories behind them. We left the theatre smiling, humming, and already wanting to go again.
