Hairspray the Musical has finally hit Perth for the first time ever thanks to HAMA Productions, and I think you’re going to love it.

This feel-good show celebrates inclusivity through laughter, joy, great 60’s music, gorgeous costumes and amazing performances.

Based on John Waters’ original 1988 movie, this multi-Tony award-winning musical is directed by Vincent Hooper. Hooper masterfully brings together a talented cast who, despite a few minor technical issues, commanded the stage effortlessly. WAAPA graduate Paige Fallu shines in her lead role debut as optimistic and life-loving Tracy Turnblad. Her determination to dance on The Corny Collins Show sees her become an instant celebrity and forces her to confront personal and racial discrimination in her hometown.

Rob Palmer steals the show as Tracy’s mum, Edna Turnblad. Together with Brendan Hansen, who plays Edna’s husband Wilbur, they form a hilarious duo, delivering great laughs with their comic timing. John Rex Berry charms as heartthrob Link Larkin, while Joshua Firman as TV host Corny Collins brings energy – and big hair to the stage.

These aren’t the only powerhouse performances. Jacob Steen smoulders as Seaweed J. Stubbs and Paula Parore’s vocals as Motormouth Maybelle leave the audience breathless. Chelsea Plumley perfectly captures the role of villainous TV producer Velma Von Tussle, with Elaina O’Connor brilliantly portraying her spoiled daughter, Amber.

Hairspray the Musical is a must-see show. Get your tickets, tease your hair, and wear your brightest outfit—you’re in for a fantastic time!
