“Fight or Flight” is a high-energy action film that delivers on its promise of intense action and dark humour.
What a treat to see teen-scream heartthrob Josh Hartnett (from the days of The Faculty and Halloween H20) back on the big screen! He plays Lucas Reyes, a disgraced, former secret service agent now trapped by complicated circumstances from his last mission.

Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, Nip/Tuck) adds to this strong cast with unapologetic QUEEN energy. She’s the kind of boss you’d love to hate but sets the tone for the serious business to come.

As you could probably guess, the story mostly takes place on a plane. The cleverly named title reflects the question Lucas must ask himself. Does he take on one last mission and redeem himself or does he follow his own rules?

The film’s pacing is relentless with suspense and comedy dancing in perfect timing. There is barely a moment to catch your breath. Director James Madigan has a clear fondness for the “John Wick” franchise, and it shows in the film’s kinetic action sequences. The theme of assassin’s vs ‘perceived’ villains with ‘cut-throat’ confrontations (pun intended) is very strong and runs along the same vein as John Wick in that regard, but the similarities end there.

Our first thoughts after viewing “Fight or Flight” were that it was surprisingly gruesome. However, the lightheartedness of it all, made it easier to swallow. It’s not afraid to be funny and the script is full of clever one-liners. The film’s 97 minutes fly by and the story, although wrapped up nicely, still left room for more. Yes, I’m holding out for part 2!

Overall, “Fight or Flight” is a fun, action-packed ride that’s worth checking out. You won’t be disappointed with this film, just be ready to see blood, but don’t worry, there’s lots of funny moments to counteract them.

Fight or Flight opens in cinemas on 4th September.
