A trip to the Mediterranean coast may seem a little out of reach for most right now, so Subiaco’s newest food and wine festival, Subi Spritz, has arrived just in time to fill the void this March 31 – April 3.
The full Subi Spritz program invites guests to live la dolce vita four four days and nights, with over 15 curated events dotted throughout Subiaco which encourage attendees to eat and drink like a Southern European local.
A snapshot of what festival goers can expect includes:
The Conti Roll Contest – Subiaco Hotel will host conti connoisseurs such as North Street Store, Bark and Oh So Deli as they put their name on the line and present their take on the Southern European staple. Judged by a panel of conti experts including Vince Garreffa, with a people’s choice voted by attendees who get to sample each creation.
A Little Aperitivo Hour – Gin distillers, Spirit of Little Things will be sharing their take on the aperitivo, with a selection of hand-crafted gin-infused spritzes, showcasing Australian botanicals and other flavours from their cocktail menu. Featuring traditional, Euro-style grazing platters to accompany your free spritz on arrival.
The Great Graze, presented by Marchand & Burch – An afternoon of live music, European food trucks and pop-up bars by Aperol, South Beach Aperitivo and Howard Park Wines. Italian Street Kitchen will be serving up their flat breads, plus grazing boards by Forage & Fromage. Festivities will kick off with a free drink on arrival, with guest DJ on the decks and other live music to get you in the mood.
Movies in the Park, presented by Spanish Film Festival – The best picks from the 2021 Spanish Film Festival come to Subi, over two nights under the stars. On Thursday night, Heroic Losers, then on Friday, a special screening of Rosa’s Wedding. This is a free entry event so movie-goers can BYO snacks and a picnic, with Kamal’s Quarter Paella available to purchase on site.
After Beach –After a day on the coast, Italians embrace an ‘after beach’ celebration that kicks off in the afternoon and lingers well into the evening. Dilly Dally will be opening up their brand new courtyard with a DJ provding the Italian disco vibes.
Dive into Digestivos – Discover and taste the different types of digestivo, the perfect finish to any evening. In this masterclass guests will enjoy three tastings of popular European digestives and learn how to make (and then enjoy) the ultimate post-dinner cocktail led by the team at Juanitas, paired perfectly with snacks.
Tickets to Subi Spritz events are on sale at 9am this Wednesday, 9 February via the festival website www.subispritz.com.au
