Nothing smells better than freshly baked bread on a cold day. Except perhaps if that bread is accompanied by a hot coffee. The mornings are getting cooler in Perth so as we head towards winter, I’m enabling the comfort eating by sharing the top bakeries I’ve tried and tested for their delicious baked goods.
Mary Street Bakery – Various locations
Known for its delicious doughnuts, bread, pastries, and coffee, Mary Street Bakery has multiple locations throughout Perth. No matter if you are central or in the ‘burbs – you’re likely to find a store (unless you live NOR, but I really hope that changes soon!).
If you love to keep things new and fresh, check out the Mary Street Bakery Instagram for their weekly donut special. Some delicious and different combos- I want to share them on our Instagram stories each week. My fave Lemon meringue has become a staple on their menu, so if you loved one make sure you let them know!
They also bake their own incredibly delicious bread daily, which you may also find at your local IGA. I can attest to the fruit and nut, and the rye loaves being exceptional.
Sherbet Cafè and Bake Shop – Maylands
This bakery is famous for its aesthetic, delicious cakes and cupcakes, as well as its range of gluten-free and vegan options.
I stumbled upon Sherbet Cafè and Bake House completely by accident and it was a happy day. Not only do they have an amazing selection of cupcakes daily and brunch eats, they have THE BEST and most reasonably priced birthday cakes around.
I ordered my 40th birthday cake (yes, I’m that old!) from Sherbet and it was my favourite birthday present. The best part? You can order online and pick up on your preferred day. I have never been in and not left full and very happy.
Knead Bread and Coffee – Scarborough
This small business literally epitomises family owned vibes. Charissa & Robby Thomas work directly in the business with Robby the main baker, and is a face you’ll see often around the store.
Known for their amazing coffee, friendly service and Reuben sandwiches, Knead Bread and Coffee is beach side bakery that you will, like me, end up driving 30 minutes to, just to east their foccaccia, oh and the sour dough choc chips cookies… oh and the scrolls… Ok yes, they are my favourite.
Check out the reel I created to show my love for this expanding empire here.
Others that have been highly rated by the team-
- Bread in Common – Located in Fremantle, Bread in Common serves freshly baked bread, pastries, and cakes in a rustic and welcoming atmosphere.
- Chu Bakery – This small Japanese-inspired bakery in Highgate serves a range of sweet and savory pastries, including their famous cream puffs and Japanese-style sandwiches.
- Abhi’s Bread – Abhi’s Bread is a wholesale bakery that also has a retail shop in North Perth. They offer a range of artisan bread, pastries, and cakes made with natural ingredients.
I will update this list as I go and try all the warm breads, in the name of research of course.
