Tomas Clifford Got Stood Up bursts onto the stage with a clever opening gag – Tomas is nowhere to be seen – before he suddenly appears and launches straight into his first song. From there, the energy doesn’t drop for a second. Backed by a live band of exceptional musicians and vocalists, Clifford takes the audience on an extravagant tour of his romantic misadventures!
It was like reality injected with something much stronger – a heightened, hilarious take on dating, queerness, and heartbreak. The Rechabite served as the perfect with bright, pulsing visuals that synced beautifully with every beat and emotional shift in the performance.
Clifford’s storytelling is as strong as his vocals. We travel with him from Year 8 English class, where “Chloe” called out his Gayness, to an unforgettable Year 12 cross country when he vomited on his crush. These stories are equal parts mortifying and magnetic, told with such pizzaz – we’ve all been there, just maybe not quite like that.
The show is polished but not overproduced, playful without ever losing its emotional core. It’s a joy to watch such a young performer command the stage with so much confidence and charisma. Clifford is a natural-born cabaret star. Tomas Clifford Got Stood Up is a bold, bright, and wildly entertaining journey – that audiences will be thrilled THEY SHOWED UP for.
Whilst Tomas has finished his run… for now… on the Perth circuit, he is off to Melbourne to perform!
