As fans of British comedy panel shows, it was with great anticipation that we showed up at Sara Pascoe’s standup routine at the Astor Theatre in Mount Lawley.

Titled Sara Pascoe: I Am a Strange Gloop, this story is about life, her husband, IVF and raising two boys in her early 40s.

From a carefree happy life to children and constant struggles, Sara takes us on her hilarious life journey as a wife, mother and comedian. In her own self-deprecating way, she talks about being mentally and physically exhausted and being misled about having kids in a way that made us laugh a lot.

Sarah reveals what it’s like to raise two boys that seem to work against her, a hubby who fears household chores and a gradually decaying body only relieved by death.

Her numerous anecdotes had us in stitches. Especially the ones about how she could do a rewrite of the Bible, an incident with a dirty toilet brush and the disturbingly funny poop story.

To some members of the audience, the stories might seem grim and negative. However, Sara’s hilarious rapid-fire delivery ensures they don’t veer down that patth.

Every so often, Sara reminds us that she really does love her husband and children deeply, then follows up with another funny example of why she doesn’t. It is a technique she uses throughout her routine, and it works a treat.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed comedic insight into Sara’s chaotic life. The stories are endearing and relatable, especially to mothers who had children later in life. Was Sara’s routine a bit hard on men? Judging from the laughs from men in the audience, I think not.
