The Comedy Gala’s ‘Best of The Fest’ show at The Rechabite, Goodwill Club Saturday night was a crazy evening of laughs.

Hosted by Andrew Barnett, the event showcased some of this season’s top comedians. Each delivered hilarious performances that kept the audience in stitches from beginning to end.

He recounts a story regarding politics as it was election day. After being questioned previously as to why he would make jokes about Chinese Communism as a patron said “Why joke about that? They don’t have a choice!”, his response was “Lady, have you been to a Chinese restaurant? They have nothing but choices! You can order number 49 on the menu! If you order 49 at our local RSL you’ll get 9 number 5s and a garlic bread!”

His witty banter extended to heckling a 60-year-old audience member named Peter, who knew all about solar panel apps. He proved Barnett’s theory that sometimes understanding technology isn’t always about caring for the environment; “because he has a mate that does the same. But his mate doesn’t do it because he cares about the environment because he cut down every tree in his backyard as they were shading his panels.”

Next was Andy B as ‘Chris, The Best Man,’ delivering an awkward wedding speech that only to realise he was in love with the groom, Dave. Matthew Ewin from the UK performed with video edits, leading the audience to do karaoke with one side singing parts of a song on the screen while the other sang out of sync.

A personal favourite, Schalk Bezuidenhout from South Africa, joked about his divorce: “You go very quickly from Mambo No. 5 to Blink 182…In the first week you’re singing ‘1, 2, 3, 4, 5 – I want Angela, Pamela, Sandra and Rita,’ and then two weeks in you’re singing ‘Where are you! And I’m so sorry, I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight.’”

Finally, Andrew Wolfe, Australian Comedian of the Year 2025, closed the night with his unpredictable, chaotic style.

Overall, the night was a hilarious roller coaster, filled with witty stories, clever satire, and unforgettable moments that I truly needed. I would rate this event a 5/5 for sure!
