Oktoberfest is just a massive, global celebration of beer, and German snacks, right?
There is a lot of heritage behind the 200-year-old Munich Oktoberfest. It started as a celebration of a royal wedding in 1810. This spectacular affair was packed with carnival amusements, horse racing, parades and general merriment. The attendees had so much fun, they did it all again the following year and almost every year since.
Some of that cultural heritage has carried through to today’s celebrations around the world. While a lot of the original traditions have been dropped, we have kept most of the fun stuff. People still dress up in drindls, and of course, who can forget the beer, bratwursts and pretzels?
That time of year is fast approaching again. Everyone is starting to think about the best way to get into the action. While local pubs and bars run Oktoberfest functions and promotions, it is the bigger events that replicate the original Bavarian celebrations such as Oktoberfest in the Gardens 2024 that have people really gearing up for a great time out. It’s hard to resist a beer hall! There will also be authentic German food stalls, roving performers and an eclectic range of entertainment to keep revellers amused.
Going in costume is encouraged, so pull up your breeches, stick a feather in your cap, and get your squad together – Oktoberfest is just around the corner!
