If you’re anything like me, when you get the opportunity to head on a beautiful scenic road trip down south to explore some of WA’s most amazing local wineries, and in a 1965 MUSTANG no less, you’d JUMP at the chance! And that was exactly what happened last month when I was lucky enough to get to experience the brand-spanking-new Tour, Taste & Tapas Adventure by Mr Mustang Hire in WA’s stunning South-West and at the end of the feature, we have a very special offer for you!
The tour includes cruising to four amazing local wineries within the Bunbury Geographe Region with wine, beer and olive oil tasting as well as delicious fresh food all included on the day.
The value-packed tour is hosted by Vince and Karen Civello from Mr Mustang Hire, WA’s BEST (and I can say this whole-heartedly!) private Mustang chauffeur, with depots in both Margaret River AND Bridgetown. Lovely WA locals Karen And Vince began their journey with Sally (named after Mustang Sally of course!) around 7 years ago after Karen surprised Vince with his dream car – a pristine, turquoise-blue 1965 Mustang.
Their love for the region they call home, their warm nature and their prized Mustang Sal make them the absolute dream team to showcase the amazing South-West and all it has to offer.
Our tour with Mr Mustang Hire started with a picture-perfect winter’s day in Bridgetown where we were picked up in the 1965 stang’ and headed en route to the first winery of the day: Barrecas Winery. Situated in Brookhampton, Barrecas has a gorgeous scenic cellar door including a cosy book- nook to sit and enjoy a glass. Here we got to try their famous olive oil paired with locally-baked sourdough, and even got to try some olive oil ‘straight from the tap’, before they start the filtering process, which was one of my favourite experiences of the day!
Back aboard Sally, the next stop was Barton Jones Winery, where their epic outdoor area overlooking the grapevines is the star of the show. The cellar door itself is made from strawbale, and with outdoor games, live music and local artists displaying their work, Barton Jones is a must-see in Donnybrook.
Halfway through the Tour, Taste & Tapas Adventure, Sally cruised us over to Oakway Estate Wines to see Donnybrook’s ONLY nanno-brewery – Ned’s Brew Club. Here we got to experience their unique boutique beers and a drool-worthy pesto woodfired pizza all amongst the tranquil rural landscape. (The port and Moscato here were amazing FYI!).
Our last stop on the tour was the stunning Smallwater Estate, where we tasted award-winning wines on their brand new outdoor deck amid the trees. With a heavenly-smelling kitchen, we indulged in the region’s best tapas at Smallwater to end our evening, including their famous pickled marron among arancini, goats cheese tarts, chorizo, grilled greens and a tasting board. Makes me hungry just thinking about it!
The Tour, Taste & Tapas Adventure was one I won’t soon forget, made all the more exciting and interesting by Karen, Vince and of course Sally. We got to explore places I never knew existed, and taste some of the best wine WA has to offer. My day with Mr Mustang Hire was one of the best weekends I’ve had in forever and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough! Not only a wine tour business, Karen and Vince also use Sally for private transfers, weddings, special events and even photoshoots!
So, if your thinking of having a winter getaway or have a special event coming up, make sure to check out Mr Mustang Hire and their new tour for a day of guaranteed lifelong memories and your chance to ride in their epic stang’!
