Clear out your boot, fluff up your pillows and get your blankets out; you need to head down to Perth’s one and only drive-in cinema Galaxy Drive-In, Kingsley.
This hidden suburban gem originally opened in the 70s and is still popular today amongst Perthies, although Galaxy Drive-In closed for a short time during Covid, they were allowed to reopen in May this year once Covid restrictions were eased.
Galaxy Drive-In is honestly the cheapest and best family night out in Perth. On Tuesday you’ll pay the bargain price of $22 per car whilst Friday, Saturday and Sunday will set you back $11 per adult and $5.50 per child (4yrs–12 years ) under 4s are free! Keep an eye on the Galaxy Drive-In website to see what is currently screening, what’s coming up soon and for all the info about when doubleheaders will be recommencing.
You don’t have to sneak in your own food here either, you’re cool to go ahead and bring along your own snacks and drinks to enjoy whilst watching the movie, you’ll see plenty of families chowing down on takeaway pizza and fish and chips. If you’re feeling a bit lazy or after the authentic drive-in experience, you’ll be able to pick up all your foodie favourites like homemade hamburgers, hotdogs, hot chips, chickorolls, ice-creams and popcorn from the onsite café. The prices are all very reasonable too.
This place has the best vibe on the school holidays and summer evenings, it really does have such a great community feel. Be warned though it can get super busy and the entry line can span down the road, so make sure you’re early to nab your car spot.
Unfortunately, at the moment you can’t bring along your deck chairs because of Covid restrictions you must sit inside your vehicle, fingers crossed things change when WA eases restrictions later this year.
Have you been to the Galxay Drive-In? Did you and your family visit the drive-in back in the day? When was your earliest memory?
