Are you a new visitor to our gorgeous city, planning your getaway or a loved up local who wants to shake up date night in Perth?

If you fit into any of those categories this is the blog for you!

Perth is expansive and often if you live in Fremantle you don’t head ‘north’ to experience everything on offer, but I am going to tempt you with some amazing experiences, locally-owned restaurants, some fab places to stay and some of the cutest little bars you ever did see to make your date night in Perth a hit. Let’s stay in Freo to start our exploration!

Fabulous Fremantle

Fremantle is one of the most iconic spots in Perth. The pace of life there just has a whole different speed and the people don’t conform to a certain stereotype. You will meet all walks of life in Fremantle and you will love the area for it. Fremantle is full of old character buildings, the streets twist and turn and there are so many gorgeous hidden spots. With a ferris wheel on the esplanade , well romance is not that hard to find. The wheel is 40 metres high and you can have a gondola all to yourself for 7 – 8 minutes, more than enough to soak in those ocean views.

So you’ve strolled through Fremantle town centre and had a magical ride on the Ferris Wheel and before you kick the shoes off for a beach walk, you need to decide where to eat?

One of our faves is Piggy Food Co. They have that Californian vibe (a little slice of home for some of the visitors) serving craft beers, champagne, that Southern California cuisine with share plates, chorizo burgers, tacos and the most delicious, ice cream sandwiches. The ice cream flavour is constantly changing and they are all delish! These are creamy vanilla ice cream sandwiches rolled in salted caramel and choc-chunks – all made in house. Who doesn’t love chocolate chunks!

Fremantle always has music, markets and events happening, before you head along check out our Fremantle community page here.

Exploring the beautiful Swan Valley

From a coastal port to the inland countryside that is nothing short of breathtaking, the Swan Valley is a must-see while you are visiting Perth. If you’re a local and haven’t travelled to the Swan Valley, I think now may be the time.

To start, what about a staycation? Organise a romantic weekend or a midweek getaway – or if you are a visitor to Perth we have the perfect accommodation for you.

The Novotel Swan Valley Vines Resort is one of the most beautiful in the Valley. A golf course at your fingertips to kangaroos dropping by at dusk; have some downtime together with a spa package plus it’s only 35 minutes out of Perth. This is the perfect place to start your journey tasting wines and chocolate. Find Swan Valley and Perth CBD hotels here.

You’re settled in, had your spa, now you’re ready to explore. Where do you start? You can self-tour throughout the valley and the “Cider and Ale Trail” sounds like the kind of date you could relax into. Showcasing nine different venues throughout the valley, this is perfect for you if you’ve already experienced the wineries or are more of a cider type person. Of course, you can certainly pop in to the wineries on the way (drinking responsibly of course).

If you’d like another alternative there is a very fine coffee establishment in the Swan Valley, one that I would travel for – Yahava Koffee Works. Grab yourself one of the best coffees you will ever taste and get ready for some of the greatest chocolate EVER! Margaret River Chocolate Factory has been creating chocolate in Perth since 1999 and now have a location in the Swan Valley (alongside Margaret River of course). They offer free tastings as you walk in and you can watch their chocolate being made. The only hard part is what to choose to take home with you!

Embracing romance in the City of Perth

Our fair city creates romance without even trying. All you need to do is head to Kings Park and you are sorted, however, I thought I would come up with something a little more exciting.

Elizabeth Quay has had some major developments in the last few years and it is now a regular feature on our Instagram page with so many gorgeous angles, lights and places to selfie. There is food galore, cute bars and now new forms of transportation!

Gondolas on the Swan are something that oozes romance and that little something extra for your visit to Perth. Directly from the business themselves- “The handcrafted wooden gondola was designed and built in Perth and also comes with a strong Western Australian heritage. The hull is made of solid Western Red Cedar.” We love that they have such a strong connection to Perth and are locals who love this city as much as we do. I personally cannot think of any other way I would like to explore Elizabeth Quay and the Swan River.

Next you’re ready for a quiet drink and dinner where you can talk and just enjoy each other’s company. A short walk leads you to Petition Bar which we feel is one of the best in the CBD. There is a wine cellar that will astound you and the food is just superb. Imagine a gondola ride and then a beautiful dinner… absolute romantic perfection!

Then finally you head to Perth Concert Hall to experience a show, and with these ever-changing, head to their website to stay up to date and see what’s currently on.

As you are ready to start winding down, head across the road to your Perth hotel located near the venue. Relax by the rooftop pool at Mecure Hotel Perth after the show.

Of course, you can always find what is happening in the city on our Central community page here.

Who says date nights need to be dinner and a movie? We’ve showcased three exceptional experiences from three very different parts of Perth and we’re feeling all loved up.

Don’t forget to show us your best date night Perth ideas and tag us #perthhappenings so we can join in the fun!
