The newest addition to Mount Lawley’s vibrant café scene – Mount Lawley Coffee Co – is bringing a slice of Fitzroy to Perth’s inner-north suburbs.

With white-washed brick walls, large arch mirrors, jade green feature tiles, striking artworks, and an abundance of thriving indoor plants and natural light, visitors are immediately transported to Melbourne’s ubercool café scene as they step inside the doors of Mount Lawley Coffee Co (MLCC for short).

Offering “great coffee, great food and great vibes”, this neighbourhood café caters to all – providing everything from a place to meet and socialise, to a peaceful remote work destination, or simply a space for respite and some seriously good coffee. Visitors can choose from alfresco seating, indoor tables, or a cosy nook on the staircase designed to provide a leafy hideaway from the world, all while enjoying their beverage of choice and a variety of delicious breakfast treats.

The café is heavily focussed on its coffee offering, and they have teamed up with local coffee roasters Brightside Coffee Co to develop an exclusive Mount Lawley Coffee Co house-blend, using ethically sourced beans from regions of Brazil, Colombia, and Ethiopia. The result is a smooth, creamy blend with notes of hazelnut, marzipan, and a subtle apricot finish.

The coffee menu also includes a batch brew that changes daily, internationally sourced single origin that changes weekly, and iconic guest blends that change every month. Those who aren’t a fan of caffeine needn’t worry, as the café’s founder is also the owner of RAWR, who have been supplying cafes across Australia with internationally awarded sticky chai blends and latte powders since 2016.

While coffee plays an important role in the café’s offering, it isn’t the only focal point. High quality experiences, supporting local and creating a sense of community are at the heart of what MLCC wants to bring to Perth’s café scene.

Created by Richie Harrop, who drew on his vast experience managing cafes and restaurants in the UK, Melbourne and, most recently, WA, Mount Lawley Coffee Co is on a mission to elevate Perth’s coffee community. Richie’s hospitality journey began when he was just 17 years old and has led to a fulfilling career both managing and owning restaurants and cafes around the world. In this time, he also studied architecture and interior design, and co-owned a luxury interior design business – passions that have served him well in the design and styling of his new café. His ardour for coffee was unlocked during his time in Melbourne, where he discovered the difference high-quality blends could make to the experience. Since then, he has sought to share this passion and bring an elevated coffee offering to Perth.

With good coffee, good food often follows. The menu at MLCC takes a “simple things done well” approach, focussing on premium, fresh, and flavoursome ingredients. There’s a selection delicious brunch staples including croissants, paninis and smashed avocado toast, as well as a rotating range of allergy-friendly treats for vegan and gluten free café-goers to enjoy.

Seeking to support local and create a lively community hub, MLCC also stocks a curated range of home-grown-and-made products. In the “Cabinet of Curiosity” you’ll find granola made by a supplier just one street away, keep-cups, water bottles, fashion accessories, locally crafted homewares and much more.

Mount Lawley Coffee Co has certainly been added to our list of favourites, and we highly recommend making a visit if you want to experience the best of what Perth’s café scene has to offer.
