So your first date went great and you’re planning your second one – but perhaps you’re after something different that isn’t just dinner and drinks. With these novel date ideas (mostly tried and tested by yours truly!), you’ll be sure to have fun and impress at the same time. While you’re at it, you can both take advantage of what summer in Perth has to offer.

Let us know if you try any of these ideas!

Beachside Chills and Dogspotting

If you consider yourself a water baby, here’s a chill second date option! Beat the heat and head in for a playful splash or lay a picnic blanket down in the shade for some afternoon chit chat. South Beach is a favourite of mine, and their adjacent dog beach is a prime place for dogspotting (a great way to get to know your date more, I’d say). Once you’re ready to grab some fuel, you can settle in for brunch at of the many prolific cafes in South Fremantle like Port City Roasters, or dine in for lunch at Madalena’s.

Comedy & Drinks Galore

I know I said these ideas weren’t just dinner and drinks… But this one’s an exception, especially if you both work in the city and are meeting up afterwards. If you’re up for some mischief, you can’t go past The Laugh Resort – which is hosted bimonthly on the second floor of The Shoe Bar and Cafe. If you’re peckish, there’s much to eat and drink at Yagan Square; either dig into some mouthwatering Japanese dishes at Hiss & Smoke or stay close by grabbing a drink at The Shoe. Just keep track of the time, as you’ll want to secure a good seat at The Laugh Resort!

Paddle Along The Swan River

If there’s anything better than a scenic picnic at Matilda Bay, it’s the chance to get out onto the mesmerizing open waters right after. With Perth Waterbike Adventures, you and your date can venture along the Swan River shoreline on their high-performance waterbikes – which, rest assured, are almost impossible to capsize due to their configuration. In short, it’s a new and adventurous way to enjoy the Swan River and its sweeping views. (In fact, you can read more about experience here!)

Embark On An International Food Journey

Warm summer nights are best complemented by great food and company. If you simply can’t decide where to eat (an age-old dilemma), the Twilight Hawker’s Market at Forrest Place is the place to be. Try a range of authentic street food dishes from different cuisines all over the world. For dessert, make your way over to Chicho Gelato to treat your tastebuds to unique gelato flavours like lavender honeycomb. With The Courtyard Club season running right next door at the State Theatre, you can enjoy one of their weekly live music sessions to go with your cold treat.

Catch The Sunset At The Markets

If being by the beach is where you want to be on a Thursday night, you’re in luck! The Scarborough Sunset Markets are back and running until April 29 2021 – making it the perfect place to head to on a Thursday evening. Catch the gorgeous sunset, grab a bevvie and admire all the creative artists, local musicians and curated pop-up stores coming together in one place.

An Enchanting Night At The Ballet

If you’re into the performing arts, check out the West Australian Ballet to see what they have in store for you this summer. Whether you’re indulging in the Christmas spirit by seeing The Nutcracker, or dressing to the nines to watch one of their special GALA performances, get ready to be enthralled. With these shows being held at His Majesty’s Theatre, Angel Falls Grill and The Stables are fantastic nearby spots to grab a bite to eat beforehand.
