Disney on Ice is back for the opening weeked of the school holidays. This time they’re bringing Disney on Ice presents Magic In the Stars. This show features the largest cast to date, with fifty six of your Disney favourites gliding their way across the ice and into your hearts. It promise to be a night of awe-inspiring figure skating and aerials, dazzling costumes and thrilling special effects.

We were lucky enough to have to catch cast member Simone Aubrecht on her break. Simone hails from Sydney and plays Elsa in this season of Disney of Ice presents Magic In the Stars. What secrets will she unveil?
Australia isn’t exactly known for ice skating, what made you decide to pick it up?
Yes, Australia is not known for ice-skating at all! Thankfully both my parents are figure skaters and they actually met on another figure skating show, then they moved to Australia. I was pretty much born onto the Ice, and they have been my coaches my entire life.
Tell us how this opportunity to work with Disney came about.
Well, because my parents were always show skaters, that’s something that I’ve always talked about wanted to do after my competitive career. So, when I decided to finish competitive figure skating, I sent my video audition into multiple different figure skating shows and I am lucky enough that Disney responded to me with this offer to perform in Magic in the Stars.
What has it been like training with professionals outside of Australia?
Being able to meet so many figure skaters from around the world is truly an amazing opportunity. Being able to spend time and get to know people outside of your home country really allows you to experience and learn so much more about the world, and when we are brought together in this cast we all have one goal to put together a great show.
Tell us one thing you do that we may not expect a cast member to do as part of their routine.
Something that I do every show while backstage getting ready for the Frozen Two segment is that I recite the lines of Olaf and Anna before my entrance to the Ice. I think I do this to distract myself from being nervous.
You’re an Australian who ice skates and plays a snow queen, so let’s flip the tables. If you could have Elsa explore one Australian tradition, what would it be?
I think Elsa would have a fantastic time at a typical Australian sausage sizzle barbecue outside of Bunnings!!
Aside from the Frozen segment, which is your favourite part of Disney On Ice Presents Magic in the Stars?
My favorite part is definitely the Moana segment. The amount of pyrotechnics, props and skating ensemble that is used alongside of Moana and Maui‘s story to returning the heart of Tefiti works so beautifully together and I absolutely love watching that segment.
If you could play any other character on Disney on Ice, who would it be?
I would definitely love to play Merida from brave; she is another very independent and powerful Disney princess. Growing up, I have always looked up to her and the way she takes control of her future. She is very similar to Elsa which is why I’m so happy and grateful to be portraying the role of Elsa.
What would be your advice be to an aspiring Australian Disney star?
My advice to any young figure skater is to keep enjoying and loving the sport for what it is. And to everyone whether you are skating competitively, for recreation or professionally, It is a sport and art to be enjoyed and loved so keep that spark alive.
