⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m not going to lie. I went into this show with such low expectations we were likely to hit Mines of Moria, but after watching this show I was soaring higher than an Eagle picking up Gandalf off a tower!

“My Precious: The Cabaret” is an extremely impressive singing and dancing performance with fun humour and an engaging story!

I was not sure how this was going to go, as the character of Gollum is not exactly known for his soothing vocals or charismatic looks.

However, Morgan Palmer blew me away the moment he started singing. He sounded like how Smeggle sounds but his singing never pitched or wavered or sounded wrong. He was a REALLY good singer!

But that is not where it finished either.

During this performance he did a number of dance routines and I don’t mean flayed around on stage (although he did do that too for certain people). It was a full on stage choreography of ballet, cabaret, and hip hop.

I was fully invested and the sheer amount of energy coming off him made me feel like I needed a bottle of water because it was so intense.

The story as well is very amusing. After losing the Ring, Gollum (now going as G’lem and Smiggle) decide they need to find a new obsession and have chosen show business.

The audience work was very funny, especially with the poor young lady a seat over from me in the front row. Morgan’s makeup is so good that he looks genuinely disturbing and watching her nearly squeal whenever he came close was magic.

It is a fantastic Fringe performance. The only warning I will say about this show is you will need to have at least a general knowledge about Perth and politics. If you don’t know who Barnaby Joyce and his Party is, and don’t know Perth suburbs, some of the jokes will fly over your head. It’s a Perth WAAPA performer doing a Perth show for a Perth audience after all.

However, if you aren’t a sandgroper that won’t stop you from enjoying this.

Surprisingly you don’t need to be a superfan of Lord of the Rings either. If you have watched the movies or read the book at least once you will be fine.

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, this is a show worth seeing!

My Precious! The Cabaret is now showing at Fringe World until 8th February 2026.
