The WA Museum Boola Bardip has unveiled their latest exhibition: The Great Kimberley Wilderness Experience. This is a world first and I have to say – it is amazing.

Narrated by Luke Hemsworth and produced by award-winning Australian production company White Spark Pictures, “The Great Kimberley Wilderness” is a thirty five minute immersive virtual reality documentary. Putting on that headset, you’re transported into a full 360-degree Virtual Reality experience in the Kimberley. The journey takes you on a helicopter ride over stunning landscapes, and you’ll find yourself exploring some of the most remote areas in the world.

Throughout the journey you’re guided by Traditional Owners and scientists as they talk about the rich Indigenous history and take you on an adventure exploring the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park.

Learn about the prehistoric history of the Kimberley Region, learn how Indigenous Art is studied and access landscapes you’ve never experienced before.

The WA Museum is a leader in immersive storytelling, and this experience has been launched consecutively across four of the Museum’s public sites (the WA Museum Boola Bardip, the Museum of the Great Southern, the Museum of Geraldton and the Museum of the Goldfields). So, there is no excuse to miss out on this! With school holidays coming up, this is a fantastic educational experience for kids aged 14+.

The Great Kimberley Wilderness season runs from 23 November 2024 to 28 April 2025 at WA Museum sites before seasons at the National Museum of Australia from December and Tamaki Paenga Auckland War Memorial Museum in April 2025.
