Goodness. how hot has February been?! š„µļø Can we all cross our collective fingers and pray for some respite from the Summer heat?
While Summer will be “officially” over in March, there are still plenty of festivals and outdoor activities that will be running in March. Many of them are ABSOLUTELY FREE to attend, so no excuses… indulge your senses!
Perth Festival closing event: Under the Same Sun (Saturday, 2nd March)
Don’t miss out on the epic evening which will bring artists from across the festival together for a musical celebration. They will be accompanied by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the outgoing Festival Artistic Director, Iain Grandage. Bring a picnic blanket or low chair, along with some nibbles. Alternatively, there will be some food trucks on site.

Joondalup Festival (2nd March – 22nd March)
Joondalup Festival is back for three weeks of art, song, dance and culture! This year boasts a cracker of a program including the popular Electric Kingdom. Be prepared to be wowed by the giant, glowing animals that will inhabit Hillary’s Boat Harbour throughout the festival. This year, the City of Joondalup has commissioned a brand new creatureĀ – see if you can spot the elusive Snake-Neck Turtle, a Joondalup Festival exclusive! Entry is free and not bookings are required.
Neon lights not your speed? Check out the travelling performance, Living Sculptures: How the Birds Got Their Colours. The performance will rotate venues throughout the festival so whether you’re beach bunnies or sand-haters, there’s a perfect spot for you to watch this. The production is an amalgamation of First Nations dance, storytelling and contemporary circus. Oh, and before you ask… entry is FREE.

Barking Gecko Theatre’s Family Fun Day (Sunday, 24th March)
Forget about going on a bear hunt… go on an adventure with Barking Gecko Theatre instead! The Great Gecko Trail is full of clues – will you be able to decipher them all and uncover the surprises? Register online and pick up your trail passport before you start.

Aussiz Holi Festival of Colours (Sunday, 24th March)
Grab your whitest t-shirt and get ready to wear the colours of the rainbow… Holi is back! The Indian Society of Western Australia have an amazing day planned at Langley Park. Aside from getting yourself pelted with coloured powder, participants can look forward to a live DJ, foam party and a dunk tank.
