This young and remarkably talented group of musicians have been wowing audiences from all over Australia and now, they’re coming to Perth for the first time in 12 years. With the added bonus of local musicians joining the performance, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.
Celebrating it’s 75th anniversary, The Australian Youth Orchestra provides inspiring training opportunities for generations of Australian musicians from the ages of 12 to 25 who have undergone rigorous audition processes. It’s truly inspiring to witness the dedication and passion that these young musicians possess. We are very proud to share our very own locals that will be taking the stage.
Jasmin Middleton
Jasmin is 25 years old and grew up in the suburbs of Tapping and Edgewater. Once finishing high school, Jasmin completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) specialising in violin performance and most recently completing her Master’s thesis. With her impressive experience and many career highlights including being a violinist with West Australia Symphony Orchestra, performing with WA Philharmonic Orchestra for the Ballet’s season of Swan Lake and more, we’re eagerly looking forward to seeing her on stage and seeing her thrive in her career.
Aaron Ooi
Aaron is our youngest local in the Australian Youth Orchestra at 16 years of age. He currently lives South of the Swan River and is in Year 11. Aaron is a highly skilled and versatile musician with a talent for playing three instruments – the violin, piano and oboe. As well as, performing classical music on each. Aaron will be performing Prokofiev Symphony no.5, Bernstein’s Candide Overture and The Djari Project Miyapuni with the WA Youth Orchestra as a violinist and the assistant concertmaster. Apart from his classical music interest, he also has a keen interest in R&B, hip hop and jazz. With his passion and potential, we’re thrilled to see him on stage and we’re excited to witness his growth as an artist in the future.
Jeremy Mazurek
Jeremy is 24 years old and grew up in Osborne Park. He moved to Melbourne last year and is now in his second year of study at the Australian National Academy of Music. This is his second season with the Australian Youth Orchestra, previously playing the winter season of Alpine symphony with the trombone. With Jeremy’s striking experience that includes performing with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and freelancing in Melboune and Perth, we are excited to witness Jeremy perform in his home town and we can’t wait to see him fulfil his dreams to win an orchestral job in Australia or Europe.
With an exhilarating program of Mahler and Shostakovich under the baton of Aivind Aadland, the heart-wrenching beauty of Mahler’s Adagietto will be paired with the tempestuous journey of triumph and despair. The arrangement promises to be an unforgettable experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to come together and see the next generation of classical musicians first-hand.
