North Fremantle has a new neighbourhood bar, right by the beach. Officially opening on Christmas Eve 24th December, Al Lupo is ready to raise the foodie scene in a big way.
An Italian idiom, In Bocca Al Lupo is to wish someone good fortune or good luck, and co-owners Greg Leaver (Strange Company, Ronnie Nights), Alex Brinis (MRKT Space) and Matt Power (MRKT Space) couldn’t wish for any more for their newest venture, a North Fremantle neighbourhood bar by the beach.
Offering a lo-fi elegance with a sunken lounge and space to settle in for an Italian tipple at the bar, at Al Lupo be ready to enjoy the sunset over the Indian Ocean. Stunning timber work, green marble-topped bars and recycled jarrah floorboards combine perfectly with in-house designed furniture and multi-textured tiling.
With a wine list 100 drops strong, you will be spoilt for choice with wines from all over the world. Italian varieties are the main focus, with Australian varietals following suit. The wine menu is a rotating selection of by-the-glass and bottles. And, like any good neighbourhood enoteca, Al Lupo is walk-in only. For those who prefer a little more shake than grape in their glass, you’re in luck. Lead bartender Lucky is relocating from Sydney for the Freo coastal lifestyle, and he knows how to whip up a good cocktail.
Head chef Carlos Olivari will be firing up the kitchen, preparing small dishes to appease the masses. Many of the dishes on the menu will be gluten free (or offer a GF alternative) and vegan dishes will have a strong presence – another win for those celiac and vegan friends. With eyes on the ocean from all corners of the bar, seafood sings strong on Al Lupo’s humble menu, with notable mentions to the local scallop, perfectly cooked in chilli butter and served hot; fresh tiger prawns with homemade focaccia seasoned with mild aleppo pepper and mouth-watering salmon crudo with mandarin and nori. For those looking for their sustenance from land, the beef rump cap with a spicy sobrasada vinaigrette and crisp watercress is guaranteed to hit the spot.
Al Lupo will swing open its doors on Saturday 24 December, just in time for that festive season catch up!
