It was a rainbow of light, colour and sparkles as Perth drag artists Skye Scraper, Moxie Heart, Rhonda Civic and Miss Cara – with special guest and local trans advocate, Perri Prism – tore up the stage with their deadly dance moves in the Home Economics room Girls School.
The all-ages show featured a theme of representation and took audiences on a pop-culture journey from prehistoric times to Old Hollywood.
The cinematic masterpiece boasted three main sections including Divas & Disco, a Shrek-tion and a modern pride piece about self-love.
The vaudeville of classics and campery featured a cleverly curated song track of musical sensations including Lady Gaga, Spice Girls, Katy Perry, Elton John, Pink, Jessica Mauboy and acts including Adele, The Flintstones and Puss in Boots.
Skye Scraper said: “Our track list spans the decades to serve nostalgia and also features new and obscure tracks to share something current and unique. And of course, it’s all very camp!”
Draped in a floor-length sparkling red gown, Ronda Civic introduced the team, addressed the crowd and earnt herself a few laughs when she said: “If there’s something I like more than drag, it’s doing drag on a 40-degree day, in a small room!”
The quartet, who were once rivals, recently competing in the Pop Royalty Drag Competition at Connections nightclub in 2021, came together with a collective passion to share Perth’s drag scene with audiences of all ages and walks of life.
The multi-talented team each bring a diverse range of experience and skills, with Moxie Heart and Miss Cara professionally trained in musical theatre, Skye Scraper as a fringe-show-performing junkie and Rhonda’s passion for burlesque and pageantry.
The show bubbled with quick wit, ginormous stilettos and killer calves, equally humorous and fabulous.
With a seemingly endless wardrobe fitted with perfectly delicious outfits, seamless set transitions and perfect hair and makeup, Cara’s creative vision and choreography came to life in the form of vibrant and exciting routines.
After opening to two sell-out venues, and closing to a roaring crowd, one thing is for certain: no matter who you are, or what you’re into, there’s something here for everyone.
Drag Time Music Hall was a both hilariously entertaining and wonderfully celebratory. A spectacle of music, fashion and dance, sure to have you grinning ear to ear and clapping along to the groovy tunes.
