Perth’s arts and culture scene is developing, expanding and becoming more ‘user friendly’ each year. One new addition to the scene is set transform the Jazz space. Perth get ready to experience globally renowned musicians banding together to launch an exciting new initiative: the Western Australian Jazz Project (WAJP).
The project will be a flagship for jazz in WA and brings an all new musical experience to the heart of our CBD. Officially launching this summer, the WAJP is bringing a whole new level of excellence to the experience of Jazz and making the genre more accessible than ever.
With support and funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Culture and the Arts WA, WAJP is headed by board members Adrian Kelly, Grant Windsor, and Melissa Skinner –
each boasting an impressive resume of global performances and experience working alongside musical greats such as Hugh Jackman and Michael Bublé. You know your in good hands!
Having attended the media launch of the WAJP, it is clear to see just how much thought, time and dedication has gone in to creating something truly unique to Western Australian audiences. I wouldn’t have said I was a fan of Jazz until I found myself tapping my foot and closing my eyes enjoying the sounds of these beautiful instruments. It is hard to not be mesmerised and lose yourself to the music.
The WA Jazz Project is an ensemble of trumpeters, trombonists, saxophonists and rhythmists and will be transforming Perth’s jazz scene through a series of concerts, activations, and education opportunities in Western Australia.
Their first concert is at Perth Concert Hall, Thursday December 16th and will bring to the stage not only favourite Christmas songs, but their own rendition of Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite.
