Let’s be honest… regular movie screenings are lovely, but they’re sometimes a bit too quiet. A bit too “please silence your phone and stop breathing so loudly.”
At Joondalup Festival, they scrapped the rules, cranked up the volume, threw on a mountain of sequins and turned Mamma Mia! into the most joyful, chaotic, fabulously over-the-top cinema party Perth has ever seen.
Hosted by the absolute legends at Tone & Cheek, this immersive screening was anything but a sit-still-and-watch affair. It was pure, unadulterated energy. Dancers nailed every iconic move right in front of the screen while the crowd belted out ABBA classics at full volume. The entire space transformed into one giant, sun-soaked Greek island celebration.
From the first chords of “Dancing Queen” to the finale of “Waterloo,” this wasn’t passive viewing — it was full-body, full-voice, zero-inhibitions musical mayhem. With bean bags scattered, deck chairs reclined, pizza in one hand and a drink from the bar in the other, there was absolutely no shame in singing every single word.
It was a great night out under the stars watching an iconic movie, laughing, dancing and singing with best friends. So dig out your ABBA gear or Mamma Mia outfit and get ready to embrace the sparkle. Mamma Mia! Immersive was a sold out event and it’s not hard to see why!
Let’s hope they bring it back next year!
