Tonight, we weren’t just at the Fringe; we were knead-deep in chaos with The Bakers! If we had expected a polite bake-off, we were in for a surprise. This was a full-throttle French family flour-fight from the moment the doors opened.

Enter Papa, Jean Claude, and Jean Pierre. They run a traditional French family bakery under the motto Heart, Head, Home — a philosophy they fiercely defend.

But Jean Claude has “dough” of a very different kind on his mind. Lured by the Euro and dreams of sleek, mass-produced bread, his big ambitions set the stage for seriously funny family friction. Tradition versus progress has never been this messy or hilarious.

Then there’s “Billy,” an unsuspecting audience member drafted into work experience. Honestly? Billy was a natural. I’m convinced she’s missed her calling in artisanal pastry. Watching her thrown headfirst into the chaos made the whole room howl.

The show is a masterclass in non-verbal physical comedy.

With nothing but mime, slapstick precision, exaggerated expression, and high-stakes melodrama, they spin a surprisingly touching tale about family, change, and the cost of modern convenience. The sound effects were the secret ingredient — the “cleaning,” the “driving,” the escalating kitchen chaos — every perfectly timed noise had the audience in stitches.

Fair warning: no one is safe. Between flying flour, splashes of water, rogue props, and full sensory mayhem, you’re part of the bakery whether you like it or not.

We laughed until our cheeks ached. It was pure, unadulterated, carb-loaded comedy gold!

The Bakers is now showing at Fringe World until 15th February 2026.
