⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Primal is a high-energy, adults only acrobatic show that celebrates the body, gender, identity and sexuality. Wow, that’s a lot isn’t it. This show is a lot – and unapologetically so. It’s powerful, sensual, playful and fabulous.
Brought to Fringe World Perth by Highwire Entertainment, Primal draws on the rawness of the animal kingdom and the complexities of human relationships. It blends acrobatics and burlesque, using comedy and moments of deliberate discomfort to both challenge and delight its audience.
The show moves between moments of intimacy, sexual tension and tenderness, while women consistently take the role of bases in partner acrobatics. The intention of these performers is clear – to challenge ideas about gender and physical strength. It also celebrates individuality, with each performer showcasing their own distinct skill set.
One of the most striking moments for me came from a set performed by the three women. It felt very much like a love letter to the female form. Their physicality and presence are extraordinary. While they’re so strong and warrior-like, they are still soft, sensual and beautifully feminine. It’s a reminder that women can embody multiple truths at once.
The pacing of the show is tight, transitioning between acts with ease and the bold, atmospheric soundtrack includes musical interludes by host Leather Lungs, whose ethereal falsetto fills the space beautifully. Overall, Primal is a physical, acrobatic, sexy and fun show that invites the audience to reconsider how we view bodies, gender and desire.
