⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I walked into the Ellington Jazz club to watch “Gamer Jazz – TRIFORCE!” with high expectations.
Music and video games are literally the core of my whole job profession, as a DJ and owner of a video game museum.
So I wasn’t about to go easy on the crew. I am very happy to say they blew all expectations away like a player getting hit with a Blue Shell!

The intimate setting of the club, along with the mood lighting and video game controllers at the bar, put a sense of excitement in the air and the impression something special was about to happen.
The band all came on stage wearing various video game shirts and hats such as a Pacman t-shirt, a Pokemon singlet, and a Mario hat. The band themselves seem almost out of place.
When you think of jazz you have this impression of suave individuals, all wearing matching suits or at least coordinated in style. Here, it looked like you literally got some people wearing comfortable clothing they would wear for a gaming session. In any other circumstance it might look shabby but for THIS show it really worked well.
But before you could ponder it too much the band launches into a heart thumping Mario Kart number and the show really begins. Suddenly, what they are wearing isn’t that important because the music is sweeping you away!
The energy was fun and the band played amazingly.
Too often at Fringe you see a lot of people with extreme passion that unfortunately doesn’t match their skill level.
This is not the case here.
The band was in sync without any missed notes that I could hear, and the variety of instruments being played was impressive.
We had everything from Pokemon to Zelda, as well as some surprising tunes from Animal Crossing and Fall Out. The hour flew by and the banter by the band was very on point!
Keeping the audience entertained between songs is the sign of a good showman and the leader had the crowd in hand!
I give this a solid 5 out of 5. Don’t be surprised if they make an appearance at The Nostalgia Box in the near future!
