It’s 1999. Kath hasn’t got her perm yet, Kim is skinny, and Sharon is yet to discover her love for netball. The Millennium Bug is fast approaching and Brett has built a bunker in Kath’s backyard, busy doomsday-prepping with SPAM.

Welcome to Fountain Lakes: Y2K.

In this joyful catch-up with our favourite drag Kath & Kim characters, we step back to the eve of the year 2000 to see what life was like for them. Kath is collecting Beanie Babies, the internet runs on dial-up, and online dating is a brave new frontier she decides to explore. All she wants is a Dawson’s Creek-style love story, but will she find romance on the web?

Sharon volunteers for the Life Ed Van, teaching kids about stranger danger and drugs. What could possibly go wrong? Meanwhile, Kim announces she’s marrying Brett on New Year’s Eve. It’s a move to make her friends jealous after missing out on their party invitation.

This show is hilarious, weaving nostalgia through brilliant song and dance numbers and razor-sharp writing. The characters shine in all their familiar glory, helped along by some truly gorgeous costumes, particularly Kath’s. Along the way we learn how Kath got her perm, how Prue and True ended up with their shop, how Kel enters the picture, and which famous sporting hero sparks Sharon’s passion for netball.

Smart, silly and endlessly entertaining, Fountain Lakes: Y2K is an absolute must-see. I laughed, I reminisced, and I loved every minute of it.

Fountain Lakes: Y2K is now showing at Fringe World until 15th February 2026.
