Who can forget the iconic scene of Guy Pearce atop of a bus hurtling through the Aussie desert, silver costume billowing in the wind, in the absolute classic, ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’? It is a movie ingrained in Aussie gay culture and a personal favourite of mine, having only just introduced it to a friend a couple of months ago.

In Dragged Through The Desert, Perth-based drag queen and triple threat Dean Misdale brings those unforgettable costumes, beloved songs and the heart of the movie to the stage in an evening celebrating this iconic, timeless story.
From the opening number of ‘It’s Raining Men’ you know you’re in for a high-energy glittering and bumpy ride through the Aussie outback. The belters just keep on coming throughout the show with all the classics like ‘Simply The Best’ and ‘I Will Survive’ captivating the room. Dean commands the stage throughout and is supported by a great cast mixing comedy, drag, cabaret, standup and just pure camp fun.
I loved the comedy skits between costume and set changes which meant you’re never going long without a laugh. There’s also time spent with the audience, encouraging sing-alongs and lots of engagement.
The true heart of the film shines through, as the current climate affecting the trans and drag community is gently and thoughtfully addressed, culminating in a deeply moving rendition of ‘True Colours’. It is a standout moment in the show.
If you want glamour, nostalgia and big vocals then it’s time to revisit this story of survival and triumph in this new and luminous live celebration.
