Fringe baby!!! Whooo! Comedians, burlesque, those pink triangle bunting everywhere! There is something about it which gets people excited to see new acts and take a punt on things they wouldn’t normally see.
Anisa Nandaula’s new show “No Small Talk” is one most people will enjoy and should take the aforementioned punt on!

Coming from an entertainment background and having been a professional MC and host for over 20 years, I look at any performance I watch with a little bit more of a critical eye.
Telling a joke is easy. However, being natural, charismatic, and entertaining while making the joke part of the story is a lot harder.
Anisa pulls it off fantastically and is so much fun to watch. The audience was very reactive and you could see her living off that energy. This in turn was reflected back again to the audience, making a perpetual cycle of good vibes in the room!
“But Dave” I hear you ask “What was the show about?”
Well I’m glad you asked that, hypothetical person asking the right question!
The show involves Anisa telling stories about being born in Australia, with an African mum and an Australian dad, growing up Muslim with an Asian-Australian boyfriend. You might think that the stories to be told might be a little tame but LET ME TELL YOU the topics we not! This show is rated MA15+ for a reason so don’t bring the kids unless you want to do a lot of explaining of certain topics you both will feel awkward about!
Personally, I thought the topics were fun. I had a smile on my face and chuckled a few times but I wasn’t wheezing with laughter.
That said, I was in the minority. EVERYONE was laughing their butts off and really getting into it. White people, black people, Asian people, men and women, young and old, even some teenagers who were in the audience were laughing non stop. It was fun, but maybe not just for me (a man so white he sparkles in sunlight and apparently so old he has his own place in the museum).
Regardless, I’m glad I came out and I would look forward to seeing Anisa in her next show. Go with some friends or a partner and I think you will have a really good time.
