Set on the rooftop terrace of Connections Nightclub with Perth’s city lights as a backdrop, the setting felt perfect. It was both intimate and vibrant.
There’s something rebellious about the way she frames being trans as truly rock ‘n’ roll, making you see identity through a whole new lens. One moment, you’re laughing, the next, you’re thinking deeply about how society sets expectations that are ripe for challenging. Yet she doesn’t veer into preachy territory. Courtney keeps it real and honest with the ability to laugh at life while embracing vulnerability.
While it may not be a powerhouse performance, it’s still a fun and enjoyable show. With three years of stand-up experience, Courtney is clearly honing her craft in a tough and crowded comedy world. She’s on the right track, and it’s exciting to see how she’ll continue to grow.
Courtney proves that comedy is one of the best tools for tackling important conversations about identity, growth and authenticity. Gender Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll is Rated M for drug use, mental health chats, and the occasional swear word.
