⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and a half.
Barbaroi is an exciting mix of contemporary circus and physical theatre. It is set in a dark, futuristic world with a gritty, underground feel. The show brings together a talented cast of performers who showcase an impressive range of skills, from acrobatics and aerial work to juggling and balancing acts.
The show leans into its dystopian theme with casual costumes and complex tumbling choreography that ties all the cast together to an industrial, atmospheric soundtrack and mood lighting.
It kicks off with some dynamic group choreography that sets the tone for what’s to come. The shows starts strong with a series of fast-paced, high-energy acts that highlight the performers’ strength and precision.
Some standout moments include an aerial routine, where a performer twists and drops with effortless grace, timed beautifully to the soundtrack. There is also some thrilling Cyr wheel work that fills the stage with fluid, hypnotic movement during a stand off between two rivals. Another fun addition was a juggling act that involved musical balls timed with perfect precision to land some great beats. There is also a very creative sequence of ring juggling which added a fun, rhythmic energy that kept the audience engaged and entertained.
Barbaroi keeps things moving at a steady pace, blending high-impact moments with quieter, more atmospheric scenes. Some transitions feel a bit slow, but overall, the show is well-structured and easy to follow.
If you enjoy circus with a twist, Barbaroi offers a fresh, edgy take that’s both visually striking and genuinely entertaining.
