When Claire Fahie began her rendition of Etta James classic, At Last, I was completely entranced and so was the packed house at Ellington Jazz Club. For one hour we were taken on a wonderful FRINGE Festival musical ride. The Very Best of Soul certainly lived up to its name with such titles as Son of a Preacher Man, My Baby Just Cares for Me, RESPECT and many more. Accompanied by a fabulously talented nine piece band and backed by the beautiful harmonies of Jordan Anthony and Sharni Cummings, the audience grooved to a string of soulful classics.

Listening to Claire Fahie’s wonderfully sassy voice, it is easy to see that her greatest musical inspirations are the likes of Aretha Franklin and Eva Cassidy. As a graduate of the highly respected Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Claire moved to Sydney to expand her career. Her vast talent has taken her around the world, including a residency at the Mandarin Oriental Jazz and Blues bar in Hong Kong.

Claire has returned to hometown of Perth to perform at the FRINGE, and we are certainly glad she did. If like us, you are into soul music, don’t miss out on this nostalgic musical treat at the atmospheric Ellington Jazz Club.

Four big stars out of five from me.

Unfortunately this show has sold out for the Fringe season! Keep an eye out for them next year!
