You may rememember the catch phrase- Earth, Fire, Wind and Water from a certain childhood cartoon; they were onto something. There is so much to see and experience when you bring these elements into an adventure, and we’re here to tell you that you don’t even need to travel out of the Perth metropolitan area- The City of Wanneroo is here on our doorstep and they have so much to offer this Summer.

Adventure seekers and thrill chasers, through to those looking for a tasty treat, the City of Wanneroo is ready and waiting to show you its’ best. I was delighted to be invited to enjoy four fun-filled activities focused on all the elements – water, earth, fire, and wind, and it was an exciting itinerary.

SUP Yoga at the Marina Mindarie

Up first, water! Hosted by Seabreeze Kitesurf School, who offer a range of adventurous activities throughout Perth from Mindarie to Applecross, their friendly instructors had our group connecting deeply with ourselves with a soulful SUP session on a paddleboard in the Mindarie Harbour. Have you tried yoga on a paddleboard? It is an experience you will never forget. Perfect for a women’s retreat or a self-care treat, why not for  a Hen’s morning? You can also find their fun activities range to the wilder side with kite-surfing lessons and riding on a hydrofoil board.

Meditating on the water not your idea of zen? While you’re in Mindarie pop over to the Marina Mindarie for breakfast with a view. Sistas Mindarie are a locally owned, family business (who also have the famous Burns Beach cafe in their wheelhouse), and have the perfect coffee, tea, and delicious treats, right alongside all the picturesque yachts with a clear blue sky. I can highly recommend their gluten-free and dairy-free options.

Where fire truly shines is when learning more about the land itself. Book in for a cultural session while you’re at the Yanchep National Park. We had the pleasure of learning from our Indigenous Aboriginal guide, Derek, as he shared his knowledge of Aboriginal traditional culture – explaining the six native seasons, the handcrafted tools of the people, and land survival skills such as creating fire from barely anything! You walk away feeling so much more appreciation for Australia.

Natural crystals below the Earth? Try wandering through the Yanchep caves by booking a guided tour. With a few cave options, we had the chance to visit Yonderup Cave in hard hats and wander through limestone caves to see the hidden history of Western Australia and learn about our ancient millions of years old earth. And while you’re there, make sure to get their $25 public yearlong entry pass so you can visit again and again to enjoy hiking, camping and golf!

For picnic lovers and families, there’s plenty of space for some lunch or a hike. We loved the local caterer, Basil’s Fine Foods, with their amazing spread of delicious subs, charcuterie meats and freshly cut fruits.

Thinking to host a hen’s afternoon or a romantic date? Don’t worry about packing pillows or cutlery, thanks to Moon and Stars Events, we had a gorgeous white themed low picnic table spread, napkins and custom flower bouquets included!

The wind is part of the fun at our next stop! Great for the family or a challenge with your friends, my favourite activity at Yanchep National Park was hitting airtime by climbing through Treetops Adventure Yanchep. A maze of ziplines, cords, swinging obstacles and drops, your heart will race trying to get across their multi-level courses– it was one of the highlights of the whole day for sure!

Looking to finish your day at Wanneroo in style? You should try our final stop – The Beach House in Alkimos had the perfect view to go with your delectable tapas and stylish drinks. We loved their yuzu infused gin and tonics! From lime-infused scallops to crisp smashed potatoes and buttery oysters, enjoy dinner while watch the rolling waves and sunset while you clink glasses with your friends.

Interested in travelling in a small group but not keen to drive? Try a Buswest coach, their friendly bus driver took our little group up to Yanchep National Park with our crates of water, yoga mats and luggage! He also had umbrellas for that unexpected wet weather!
