Full of funky-fresh choreographed dance moves and timely relatable chuckles, Boys Taste Better with Nutella packs a theatrical punch for the show’s entire 50 minutes.
Held in the Chemistry room at the Girls School, the stage is small and the two-man performance is intimate. Following the millennial friendship between characters Aggy, who never seems able to pick the right guy, and Frederick, who’s having zero luck finding a match in a world full of online trolls, Boys Taste Better with Nutella takes the audience on a troubling journey of relationships past and present.
As the pair explore their past loves (hint: they’re all dropkicks), we are introduced to the healing power of Nutella and french fries. If you were hoping to see a Fringe show this season where you can watch someone eat approximately half a tub of Nutella – Bingo! This one’s for you. Prepare to be amazed and somewhat disgusted at what the pair are willing to go through for their love of the hazelnut spread.
The on-stage chemistry between the actors was my favourite element of the show, and had me smiling in my seat for its entirety. Boys Taste Better with Nutella is a fun, flirty, full-of-surprises performance that earned the Fringe Award for Best Theatre in 2019.
