Whether, like me you discovered Kate Bush by watching Countdown as a 13-year-old or just recently watching Max escaping Vecna (you have to be a Stranger Things fan to understand this), there is no denying the uniqueness of Kate.
But since Kate is a recluse, we are left to see tribute acts.
Last night we saw Sarah-Louise Young in An Evening Without Kate Bush.
What a show! Sarah-Louise is engaging and involves the audience, and the show is funny, and surprising. Not only does Sarah-Louse sing like Kate but dances like her as well, which in Kate’s case is unique.
On the hot summer’s night, we sat in the fabulous Lotterywest De Parel Spiegeltent at The Pleasure Garden under the red and yellow material roof. In a darkened room, a black figure arrives on stage and then just a red light appears under the black veil. This unique costume choice continues throughout the show, obviously inspired by Kate’s video clips.
We learnt about Kate Bush’s musical history through interesting story telling, like Sarah-Louise performing a Kate Bush tribute at school in red leotards and a pink mop as a wig. I don’t want to say too much because it is better to be a surprise.
This show has concluded for this season, but be sure to keep an eye out for it next year!
