Perth is changing. When I moved here I was told that exciting events skipped our city.
The Crown Theatre is changing that. This spring they’ve played host to Frozen and Six, two big musicals you’d normally find in Melbourne or Sydney, and they’re keeping the ball rolling in 2023.
From this Friday, 11th November, Perthians can get their hands on tickets to next year’s sure fire smash hit!
I’m calling it, your new favourite musical is Come From Away and it opens at The Crown on 6th May 2023.
The multi award winning musical is based on the true story of 7000 passengers redirected to a small Canadian Airport in the aftermath of September 11th.
Director, Christopher Ashley, won a Tony Award for Best Director and his cast and crew have racked up four prestigious Olivier and five Green Room Awards.
Christopher’s not the only highly decorated member of this cast and crew. Choreographer, Kelly Devine, is Olivier Award Winning. Her CV boasts theatrical hits like Rock of Ages and Diana. The Lighting Designer, Howell Binkley’s previous credits include Hamilton and Jersey Boys.
Onstage, Canadian Actor, Kyle Brown, reprises his role from the original Broadway show. He’s accompanied by local WAAPA graduates, Douglas Hansell & Zoe Gertz, Manon Gunderson-Briggs (Shrek The Musical) and Joe Kosky (part of the team behind Netflix hit, Auntie Donna!)
It’s written by husband and wife David Hein and Irene Sankoff and based on hours of interviews they conducted in the real life town of Gander, Canada.
We can’t wait to get toe tapping from our seats. Producer Rodney Rigby told us, “Come From Away has been bringing audiences to their feet in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.”
Come From Away lands at The Crown Theatre on 6th May 2023.
