Is Fremantle markets open today? When was the last time you went? What do they even sell there? Don’t worry Perth, I have the answers.

Since 1897, The Fremantle markets have been the go to place for West Australians to buy and sell their wares at the weekend. Nowadays it’s a bustling centre to buy everything from indigenous souvenirs and homeware, fresh ground coffee to doughnuts and vintage clothing. You can feel the energy of over 100 years of Perth markets within the heritage of the building. It is one of the oldest remaining markets in Western Australia.

Here are our Top Picks of things to eat, buy and do for locals and tourists alike.

Eat at Fremantle Markets

How hungry are you? From Bao to ice-cream, I’m sure you’ll find something to snack on as you browse. I quite often nab some maki from Olivia’s when I’m shopping.

What would a market be without Fresh produce too. Tucked in the far corner of the markets are bargains of fresh produce from Chi Chi and you won’t find crustier bread with a softer centre than the bread at the Artisan Dough Bakery.

If you need a sit down meal though, the market yard has plenty to pick from: charcoaled meats, Indonesian treats or Brazillian style WA beef, it’s all there!

Drink

For me, it’s coffee. There’s several very good barista’s working in the markets, Black Cherries Espresso are experts at pouring you a hot cup but if you’re looking for something fun to take home I always go to Coffee Connection. They have experimental flavoured roasts, from Tiramisu to Caramel Fudge.

If you’re not a caffeine fiend, you can find your fix at Alive Juice for Fresh Juices or the Sin Gin Distillery for something to slip into that juice..

Wear

I always see what’s new at Labels to Adore, a proper vintage thrift store packed with bohemian Freo styles and reminiscent of the vintage shops of Portobello Road in London. Fitting that it’s found its home nestled amongst Fremantle Markets Victorian walls.

If you’re looking for something to surprise her on Valentine’s day, Indigo Dreaming make goregous sea glass jewellery or if he likes his shoes eco friendly, vegan and ‘rustically’ made from road train canvas, get him something from Afro Blonde.

Fremantle Fresh

As you venture through the markets, make sure you check out the fresh fruits and vegetables. Produce, flowers and all other fresh local goods are ready for you.
