All aboard The Raft – because WA’s premier floating event space is here to stay!

A vision 5 years in the making, The Raft is finally opening its doors to the public on October 3 as Perth’s first permanent floating venue. With the people of Perth always eager to find exciting ways to enjoy our state, our event scene is flourishing to say the least. As such, this new addition certainly comes as a welcome and innovative surprise.

Tailoring to functions, weddings and everything in between, The Raft is a modern, fully licensed venue with a 250-patron capacity and its very own bar serving up all kinds of drinks. From blood orange G&Ts and premium wines to cocktails and craft beers on tap, there’s something for everyone in this unique floating bar experience.

Much to our excitement, we were able to attend The Raft’s official Maiden Voyage for a sneak peek of the much-anticipated venue. Arriving at Barrack Street Jetty with a 23°C forecast, it was a beautiful spring day to embark on our journey to The Raft. After hopping onto the private tender vessel, it was a quick 5-minute boat ride to access the open-air venue. Along the way, we enjoyed sweeping views of Perth City and Elizabeth Quay as we drifted along on the calm waters of the Swan River. We even got to wave to a couple of onlookers on their kayaks and jet skis!

It certainly felt like we were the envy of the Swan River with how elegant the venue was. Permanently moored on the Swan River at 31°57’40.0″S, 115°51’03.2″E, The Raft is masterfully designed with architectural influences drawing from WA’s coastal landscape. From the spacious, sprawling deck and deep ocean tiled bar to the hanging vines delicately framing the venue, it’s clear The Raft offers nothing short of a remarkable atmosphere.

Justs we were treated to some fine catering from Heyder & Shears, the opening address ensued with an Acknowledgement of Country and venue’s owners, Katie and Dan Chrystal, expressing their thanks and enthusiasm for The Raft to have come together after years of hard work. Thereon, the Minister for the Environment, Stephen Dawson, took to the mic alongside Minister for Tourism, Paul Papalia – as both delivered their speeches to the media. As Dawson put it best, “Part of protecting the environment is allowing people to enjoy it and experience it… [and] The Raft is a wonderful demonstration that [Western Australia] is thriving and open for business.”

For those looking for a one-of-a-kind way to spend a special occasion or simply live it up, let The Raft and their crew help you to celebrate in style. With plenty of exciting developments like holiday parties, live DJs, mid-week yoga and Sunday sessions on the cards, we have no doubt that you’ll be given an experience to remember.
