From colourful kaleidoscopes to mysterious memento mori, this fortnightly laboratory will take the entire family on a journey of discovery exploring the nexus of science and art — old and new.

🟧 [Nyoongar Technologies] Saturday 16 January, 10am-1pm.
Facilitated by Derek Nannup, discover what’s involved in making a stone cutting tool including processes such as resin crushing, stone knapping, hardening wood and glue making.
Play some First Peoples games and then travel back in time with the Virtual Whadjuk VR experience. This is a hands-on workshop designed to increase skills and satisfy inquiring minds with activities in art, technology and making.
🟧 [Memento Mori] Saturday 30 January, 10am-1pm
Celebrate the weird and bizarre objects from the Museum’s Collection and create your own piece of memento mori. A memento mori is an artistic or symbolic representation of the latin phrase, ‘remember you must die’.
Explore the ancient art of scientific illustration as well as the new digital world of collecting, witness live taxidermy and learn how to preserve your own specimens.
This is a hands-on workshop designed to increase skills and satisfy inquiring minds with activities in art, technology and making.
🟧 [Kaleidoscopes] Saturday 13 February, 10am-1pm.
Science and beauty come together to showcase the connection between mirrors, crystals and the Museum’s Collection.
Framed within the kaleidoscope’s unique and colourful landscape, enjoy a VR experience that will take you to worlds within worlds.
Immerse yourself in mirror experimentations, microscopic crystal investigations, jumbo-sized kaleidoscope creations, spirograph drawings and salt crystal painting.
This is a hands-on workshop designed to increase skills and satisfy inquiring minds with activities in art, technology and making.
