Local award-winning artist and art educator Hannaa Adam is sharing watercolour paintings with a unique outlook.
« After years of battling depression and anxiety, I figured I wanted to create art that was feminine, delicate, uplifting and empowering » says Hannaa.
After spending a year exploring and falling in love with modern watercolours, Hannaa launched into painting gemstones and crystals only to discover that the inner meanings of these can be translated into empowering words to use as affirmations by anyone who needs it.
Influenced by her faith and her spirituality, Hannaa has made it her mission to tap into the powerful meanings behind crystals to embellish and bedazzle common icons and is participating in the City of Joondalup Community Art Exhibition to display her latest work Adorned by Magic.
« Adorned by Magic works on the idea of embellishing the already magnificent tail of a peacock with sapphires and diamonds, in a pose where the bird is proudly displaying its magical tail » says the artist. « Most of the work I create is a metaphor for the way we, women, need to see ourselves, which is why I refer to my art as being empowering and inspiring. For me it was a natural evolution from utilising the meaning behind crystals to create affirmations to then creating large paintings to convey messages to women out there who might be struggling with their self esteem or self confidence. And what’s more is that there is a deliberate fault in the painting to emphasise the fact that we can shine in the world despite any imperfections we see in ourselves. »
