Are you ready for Perth’s tastiest fried chicken? We thought so. Welcome to Chimek Chicken!
With four locations in Perth, this local business is based on a popular craze from America and Korea -fried chicken and beer!!
Taken straight from the Chimek website “The name Chimek is a portmanteau combining the word ‘chicken’ with the Korean word for beer, ‘mekju.’
Chimek are celebrating 4 years in Perth and they have some super delicious specials for you, but more later in the blog.
As soon as you walk in to the Vic Park location you are greeted with multiple large screen TV’s suspended from the roof. As a huge sports fan, I was taken by these and was immediately in love with the venue. Sports, fried chicken and beer. Chimek Chicken just keeps getting better. Before I had a chance to glimpse the menu, I saw the one thing that made me forget that I was in a public place and say ‘No way, no way’ repeatedly in excitement; Mortal Kombat in an old school machine! That is me done Perth – doesn’t really get better than that for this little lady. If you are looking for somewhere to keep everyone entertained you certainly have found the place.
Back to the chicken and beer!
We ordered a selection of items – burgers, chicken wings and popcorn chicken with a beer and a cider. It was incredibly hard to decide what to try first. As I was sharing I thought it only fair to let my selection be second and I was excited that I got to try the smokey BBQ and cheese chicken wings first. I’m not a huge BBQ sauce fan if I’m honest, but the cheese sauce looked delicious and who doesn’t love chicken wings! The photo below was an attempt to look lady-like whilst enjoying the wings. They were cooked perfectly, crispy and one was not enough, but there was a smorgasbord to still try.
Next was the popcorn chicken. The serving of popcorn chicken is incredibly generous. I think I could have just eaten those as lunch and been incredibly satiated. Not greasy, light batter and hard to share.
Two burgers- two completely different tastes. The Southern Fried Chicken Brioche Burger – the Chimek Chicken signature dish. Garlic aioli, jalapenos, lettuce, cheese and cornichons. Oh my goodness – I would have to say one of my top burgers ever. I love every single thing on the burger and although it was HUGE and hard to even take a bite of (no photo of that – phew!) it was worth the effort.
Finally the Famous Charcoal Beef Burger. This one has a beef patty, caramelised onions, squid ink aioli, sauteed mushrooms and melted cheese. The fun part was that it was served on a charcoal-infused bun. If you’re like me and you are sceptical of the flavour of the charcoal – I honestly couldn’t taste it. Although this is definitely a special occasion venue for me, I was incredibly impressed with the space, the staff and the taste. There is even a burger called “The Hangover.” Keep that in mind for your next ‘after last night I need a burger’ feed!
As promised, here are the 4 Year Anniversary specials! EVERYTHING we tried… coincidence?
Starting from 3rd till the 30 of June, from Monday to Thursday all day at CHIMEK Southern River, Victoria Park and Northbridge. (Dine-in only)
